Staying Healthy & Active

Staying Healthy & Active

Right now is the most important time for seniors to stay active and healthy. You can do both while remaining safe during this time. Don’t let yourself feel couped up while we wait for this time to pass.

Staying Healthy and Active Now

Get Connected

There has never been a better time to get digitally connected now. Your loved ones may not be able to visit you, but you can still keep in touch. There are simple programs to use besides a phone call, those can be skype, Facetime or Google Hangouts. Staying connected with family is proven to improve overall health.

Pick up a Hobby

Now is the time to pick up that hobby you have been putting off. Whether that is knitting, learning an instrument or taking an online class. By keeping your mind busy and occupied you will reduce feelings of anxiety and loneliness.

Go For a Walk

According to Health Canada, going for a walk is OK. Take this time to stretch those legs and get some fresh air and exercises. You should still observe the 2-meter rule, but that is much easier to do outside.

Help Others

The best way to get through this is to help others. If you notice someone feeling down or isolated there are a few ways you can help without jeopardizing their and your health:

  • Pick up the phone and call a friend.
  • Knock on your neighbour’s door and ask what you can do for them. (Do they need groceries? Need their dog walked? Trash taken out?)
  • Make a care package with things like food, books, puzzles.

At Riverside Senior Living we are monitoring and taking this situation very seriously. If you need help with anything let one of our brilliant staff know and they will try their best to accommodate you.
